Tu me fais tourner la tete! eeehhh I must admit I have a weakness for France, French language, french cheeses, French wines, you name it. And if you, like me, adore fruity and concentrated wines, Bordeaux is the right place where to be. I wouldn’t suggest, honestly, a trip to visit just the city. Bordeaux is quite nice but her peculiarity and beauty are the surroundings vineyards.
NOT TO BE MISSED
- Saint Emillion – 45 kilometers from Bordeaux, it’s a small medieval town declared world heritage.
- Visit Wineries in Medoc, Greves et Sauternes, Pomerol areas. My suggestions are:
- Chateau Margaux – Premier Grand Cru Classé, one of the best and most famous in the world. The tour is free and a gorgeous lady will accompany you to visit the whole estate.
- Chateau Pichon Baron, pure expression of this amazing terroir
- Domaine Les Sadons, the smallest winery in Pauillac. Alain makes you feel right at home
- Chateau Petrus, just to be seen by outside as visits are not permitted.
- Restaurant Le Bis _ saint Emilion. In one word: MAGNIFICENT You can choose the “armoire aux fromages” at 29 euros you can taste up to 50 delicious cheeses….yummy! 😉
- Bordeaux – Vieux ville. Get lost in the old town
- Bordeaux – Les Halles de Bacalan. It’s a renovated market hall in Chartrons district, a very fashion area, full of atelier and street art works.
- Bordeaux – Le Bar à vin. In Bordeaux city centre, the right WineBar where tasting a good selection of Bordeaux wines paired to selections of cheeses and cured meats. There’s always a long queue from 7pm onwards so I truly suggest to go there at lunch time or in the afternoon to better enjoy your experience.
- La Maison du Sauternes. The small town of Sauternes is well known all around the world for its sweet wine usually paired with tarts but especially with Blue cheeses and paté. Here you can taste the most part of Sauternes production and buy it at a very affordable price.
- Arcachon and Pilat dunes. A sort of desert 40 km away from Bordeaux
- Bordeaux – Boitre à huitres. For the oysters’ lovers
4 different delicious oyster, a bottle of Muscadet…what else?
- Bordeaux – Place de la Comedie and Place de la Bourse
- Citè du vin. Very well done to better explain wine world. There are many interactive areas. I would suggest it more for whom would like to start approaching Wine World but not for experts. Stunning view from the terrace where you can enjoy a good wine glass
Cheers
